The Boy had been invited to join his friend on a caravanning weekend in Rhyl. So Mum suggested to Dad that they use this opportunity to camp up in the mountains. Dad thought it was a cracking idea and so the plan was hatched!
Dad had had a very busy week working all the way down in Cornwall, so Mum tried to get everything ready and packed. First she sorted out The Boy which was difficult because she wanted to keep his holiday a secret for as long as possible. Once his stuff was packed, she spent the rest of the week preparing all of the camping gear until there was quite a pile on the sofa!
Dad came round to collect everyone and everything. The Boy was very excited when he saw the car filled with holiday paraphernalia but he still didn't know where he was going until they reached the caravan park in Rhyl! His friend was there to meet him at the gate and he bid an excited goodbye to Mum and Dad after a few words about being careful near water and to take care of his spending money.
Mum and Dad then made their way to the campsite at Beddgelert. It was raining quite heavily and poor Dad was completely smothered with teeny-tiny, pesky midges. They wouldn't leave him alone! But even through the rain and the midges, the tent was set up and inside was dry and cosy. Mum went into her usual homemaker mode and made sure that the bed was ready because Mum believes that one can cope with absolutely anything once there's a dry place and a bed.
After that, they walked along the lovely path beside the river into the village of Beddgelert. It was still raining quite heavily but their waterproof gear kept them dry enough to enjoy the stroll and appreciate the smallest frog ever seen! They ended up at a pub called Prince Llewellyn and watched a bit of the football with a pint.
Here's Dad, doing what Dad always does. Whether The Family plan to eat or not, menus _must_ be read.
After their visit to the pub, they returned to camp to get ready for their first night of sleeping under canvas. It was dark and still raining on the walk home, but Mum had a fab Mag Lite torch to guide them and they were soon home and dry. Even though the weather was extremely wet, it wasn't cold at all which Mum was very glad of as she's more than a bit nesh. As they lay there on their bed, listening to the rain, they crossed their fingers that the sun would be out tomorrow.
And their toes.
